Dr. Jay, who we walk regularly around King West while his dad works in Liberty Village, attracts a lot of attention while we’re out with him, and it’s easy to see why.
He’s so friendly that we have to work hard to keep him focused on us while we pass entrances to banks and other places where there are likely to be lines of people to give him lots of attention.
Plus, you might see him coming from a ways down the street thanks to his unique hop/run, because he’s only got three legs. “A fellow tripod!” exclaimed one man we once met in the park alongside his three-legged Corgi.
Dr. Jay in all his glory
While Dr. Jay is healthy and likes to get out to run and play, he is an older Golden Retriever and his front leg holds a lot of weight, so long walks are challenging for him. We take him on private walks generally, and the odd time he is booked for a small group walk for socialization.
Dogs of all ages and abilities have a lot to gain by being out on walks. Much like for humans, we just need to make sure we accommodate their needs.
If you see Dr. Jay out with us, give us a shout and a wave – you wouldn’t be the first!
